Spooky Dinner Party

Halloween isn’t just for kids. We celebrated spooky season in an elevated way with a Spooky Dinner Party! We created a menu with some of our favorite foods but gave them a Halloween twist.

Our Menu

  • Black Berried Alive Cocktail
  • Spider Eggs
  • Antipast-eye
  • Shrimp Fra Diavolo
  • Death by Chocolate

To set the scene, we used black wrapping paper on the table (one of our favorite hosting tricks!) with black napkins, spooky napkin rings, and gold chargers. We lined the table with blood red flowers in champagne flutes and dotted around mini pumpkins, skull candles, and spiders. We hung flameless battery-operated candles from the chandelier with nylon string. To make the night feel extra special, we created spooky custom menus on our Cricut machine.

Our signature cocktail was Black Berried Alive, which we made with non-alcoholic sparkling rose and homemade blackberry syrup. See our Spooky Drinks page for the full recipe! It’s a tart but sweet way to get the party started.

For appetizers, we created Antipast-eye and Spider Eggs. These are great spooky little bites to offer guests while preparing the main course. The Antipast-eye can be made up to a day in advance, but the Spider Eggs should be made just before serving since we’re using caviar. These appetizers take just minutes to make and can easily be scaled based on your number of guests.

Antipast-Eye

6 pimento stuffed olives, cut in half width-wise
12 ciliegine mozzarella
6 slices of prosciutto, cut in half length-wise.

Cut pimento-stuffed olives and prosciutto. Score ciliegine mozzarella to make room for the olive pupil. Place half an olive in the mozzarella and wrap with half a piece of prosciutto.

Spider Eggs

sweet potato chips
crème fraîche
1 oz. black caviar (we recommend Siberian Osetra)
chives, thinly sliced

Place sweet potato chips on platter and top with a dollop of crème fraîche. Add a small spoonful of caviar on top and garnish with chives.

When serving caviar, don’t use a metal spoon as this can change the taste of the caviar. We recommend using a mother of pearl spoon, which many caviars come with.

For the main course, we served Shrimp Fra Diavolo. “Fra Diavolo” roughly translates from Italian to “brother devil,” so it’s perfect for a spooky dinner. The dish is easy to make with shrimp, tomatoes, and heat from red pepper flakes. We used orange and black pasta from Trader Joe’s to give extra Halloween spirit to the dish. Recipe from Food Network.

The perfect ending to the meal was Death by Chocolate cake! Two rich chocolate cakes are layered with chocolate buttercream and mini chocolate chips. We decorated the outside of the cake with mini chocolate chips to really put this over the edge. It’s the best chocolate cake we’ve ever had, and we can’t wait to make it again!
